Showreel Production Course for Actors
Models and Actors Talent Management will be providing a 10 week course starting in 2007 for talent who wish to market and network themselves within the entertainment industry as an actor.
A showreel is one of the most important tools for promoting yourself as an actor and it enables Models and Actors Talent Management to effectively promote you to Casting Directors and Producers. Showreels are designed to showcase your versatility and performance levels for acting/presenting in TV commercials and screen acting for film/TV roles.
Ideally the showreel should contain your best performance efforts and be 3-4 minutes in length. The course will be run for 3 hours each week and by the end of 10 weeks all talent will graduate with a fully edited DVD copy of their showreel. Different file versions can be created of your showreel which can be emailed to Casting Directors and Producers or placed on talent promotional websites such as Showcast or AT2. These will be used by Models and Actors Talent Management to allow them as your agent to most effectively promote you. Please speak to M&A for further details on the costs associated with putting a showreel on different websites.
The Showreel Production course is for talent who already has at least a basic level of acting ability and all talent will be required to audition to ascertain whether their current level is adequate. The course is designed to teach talent how to promote themselves at castings for TV ads and acting roles for film/TV. All talent will be coached to develop their drama skills to perform diverse and challenging roles and filming of different scenes will take place every week. The course will be conducted at M&A’s office on Saturday s and class numbers will be small (6-8) to allow individualised attention for each person. Two different courses for age range groups will be organised for 10-17 years and for adults 18 years and over. Children younger then 10 years will be assessed for their ability and possibly included.
The course will include the following:
- Tuition and coaching on casting skills
- Drama and improvisation skills warm up exercises each week
- Advice on character types and appropriate scripts for showreel pieces
- Assistance with sourcing scripts
- Rehearsal and filming of each showreel component which generally includes an introduction/chat to camera about yourself, 2 different TV ad pieces and 3 different acting pieces
- Individual acting coaching on each piece to produce each person’s best performance
The showreel pieces will be edited each week and if anyone is not satisfied with any of their performances, they may organize a time to reshoot any pieces. There is an additional cost per hour ($80 plus GST) associated with reshoots however each person will be given adequate rehearsal time and several chances to record their pieces during the course. Good preparation and rehearsal prior to course filming days are strongly encouraged.
COST (inclusive of tuition, coaching, recording and editing): $850 plus GST
Contact M&A on (02) 4961 1370 or info@modelsactors.com.au for more information or to express your interest in enrolling in the course to create a quality showreel and be well prepared to give your best performance in future castings.
Your showreel is a very important investment in your success in the entertainment/advertising industries. Casting Directors and Producers predominantly expect talent to provide an example of their abilities in a showreel format to assist them in determining who will be chosen to attend castings.
M&A Talent Management recommend to any talent aspiring to be actors to create a showreel so that we can effectively promote you to all interested clients. Currently without a showreel we are quite limited in being able to promote actors for most roles. An updated biography of your skills and experience you to increase your exposure by placing your showreel on at least one of the talent promotional websites (Showcast or AT2) which is usually where prospective clients search for talent. |
